What was your experience telling the children in your life about your HIV status?

Jackie's Answer

My experience with telling my oldest daughter when she was 14 years old was quite easy. I decided to tell her because she was close to the age where she might become sexually active. I wanted her to be knowledgeable of all STD’s to protect herself and not end up walking in my shoes. My youngest daughter who is now 14 years old, and was born with me having the virus. She was blessed to be born without the virus. She was raised with me advocating against HIV/AIDS stigma. When she was eight years old she started asking questions about what HIV is. Hopefully growing up with the knowledge of HIV. She will protect herself and not end up walking in my shoes as well.
