How has your race/ethnicity informed your experience with living with HIV?

Jahlove's Answer

As a gay afro-latino man who was raised in a heterosexual Catholic latino household I wasn’t informed about HIV/AIDS at all. Most of my peers in high school were of African-American and Latino descent, and all they informed me only gay men contracted HIV. My race and ethnicity has been very ignorant and stigmatizing on HIV positive individuals. But I understand how people are, especially with the fear of things they don’t know of or understand. So I have taken a leadership role among my race, peers and ethnicity to educate them on HIV/AIDS and to bring awareness, because you can’t complain about a problem unless you’re trying to be apart of the solution.
