When I was diagnosed with HIV I was just beginning to get employment and the first thing that came to my mind was, who else would know my status at the workplace? Does being HIV positive affect my type of insurance coverage? Since I am not using a government program, it is coming right out my check because HIV medication is so expensive. I was concerned that my check would be nothing because the HIV meds had to be paid for, but over time I found out that was not the case and on the workplace all medical information is kept confidential. I know in some work environments that I have heard bad stories about HIV positive people telling their employer about their HIV medical situation, and their employers have gone to great lengths to get them fired from the job.
